Bruce Newton Video Playback Operator

Bruce’s interests in photography, music and writing led him to pursue a career in Film Making. After leaving High school in 1997 he turned down an opportunity to study music to work as a camera trainee on his first feature film. He worked for the next 3 years in various capacities including production assistant, grip, spark, art department assistant, clapper loader and video assist operator before specialising in video assist in 2002. He has since worked for some of the greatest film makers on the planet including Robert Richardson, Dion Beebe, John Mathieson, Remi Adefarasin, Tarsem, Tim Maurice Jones and Peter Suschitzky.

Bruce loves film making and spends his off time and savings writing and directing his own films, his favourite being ‘Left with the Memories’. When the digital revolution hit he was involved from day 1 and added DIT skills to his repertoire. He worked for 5 years as a DIT but his preference for working closely with the director brought him back to video assist. He started many businesses in Cape Town South Africa which included one that rented out his Arri, Red and Bolex cameras and an aerial drone cinematography business which did work on feature films and commercials as well as documentaries for the BBC and the Gates Foundation. Now based in the UK, Bruce is specialising again as a video assist operator for Digital Orchard.
